Djinn (also spelled Jinn or Genies, singular: Djinni) are the second largest subgroup of demons acording to Fedeledlandese culture, only second after Imps. They are the most summoned group of demons, as they are relatively easy to summon and control, and have enough power to do several things. Djinn can also be used as a term for all demons. However, in traditional Rastynian culture, the Djini are regarded as Spirits of the Shadowless Light, the Smokeless Scorching Flame, and the Windless Frost. They are often regarded as having the spirit of the human being, only less flawed. In Rastynhaven, the Djinn watch over nature and the Tz'jiaami who dwell in their realms just like the Kami in Japan.

Fedeledland and Fedeledlandese Tradition[]

History[]

According to Fedeledlandese tradition, demons came from the god Eru Illuvatar, who, angry at the disappearance of the Fedeledlandese Telerin, created the demons, destined only to torture them. Djinn, or middle-ranked demons, are supposed to be made of the yellow-white fire, in the middle scale for heat and brightness.

It is widely believed that djinn made the main corps of demon resistance during the Great Havoc, something like the demon infantry. However, they were mistreated by most marid and superior demon generals, and some sided together with Stórrekkr the Great in order to overthrow the demon governors of Fedeledland. However, this "treacherous demons" were also expulsed from the mortal world, back into the Other Place.

Description[]

Like all other demons (excepting for foliots, some imps and sub-imps), djinn have a changing shape and, in this world, must constantly change shapes in order to keep their bodies from being possessed by uninimaginable pain. Demons almost always choose to use forms inspired by air: Shapes of classical flying demons, clouds of poisonous air, flying insects or birds. They do this because they are air demons and therefore prefer air shapes.

Djinn are also thought to be more cunning than dangerous, and (excepting for the high-ranked djinn) can easily be defeated by higher forces or even magician's spells.

There are approximately 4,000 sub-group djinni, with twenty ranks of power. The four most important sub-groups of djinn are:

  • Mainline djinn: Mainline djinn are the most common group of djinn, with very normal powers, high intelligence and relatively weak.
  • Succubi: Demons only important for their dazzling beauty. Popular among young magicians.
  • Uttukki: Animal-headed djinn. Usually dependant on their brute force to compense their lack of intelligence. Common during Akkadian times but now lacking in popularity.
  • Lamassu or Shedu: Animal-bodied djinn, closely emparented with the uttukki (see above). Highly intelligent and tendent to be sedentary. Called sphinx by many old-fashioned magicians.
  • Ghul or Gallu: Ghouls of the tombs. One of the few djinni that live in this world without a magician to force it. Haunts tombs. Weak and relatively stupid.
